Wow. Things sure have changed around here since I last posted. Despite some of the more inane postings, this forum seems to be shaping up quite nicely thanks to recent messages from Adam. (I always knew this kind of dialogue would benefit everyone- everyone from artist and enthusiast to musical historian and would-be political muck-rakers). Maybe now we will have something in the world of music ( and for that matter blogging and media-at-large) to get excited about.

Great Video, better message, marv sax and guitars!

From Spain...greetings!

a Shout Out to Jackie O M....

September 9, 2007

Jackie-O Motherfucker began as a duo consisting of multi-instrumentalist Tom Greenwood and saxophonist Nester Bucket. The group now has more than twenty rotating members drawn from the U.S. experimental scene. As of 2006, the core of the group is founding member Greenwood.

JOMF's music draws from a variety of subgenres including drone, free jazz, space-rock and is heavily improvisational in its nature. Because they are a collective, rather than a consistent band or group, the sound of their music can change from performance to performance. The group operates its own label of CD-R live recordings, the U-Sound Archive, which features concert recordings from JOMF as well as like-minded subterranean artists such as Double Leopards, Sunroof!, Decaer Pinga and Vibracathedral Orchestra.

The group's first three albums were limited-run vinyl-only releases on now-defunct Portland label Imp Records. Since then, the group has had recordings released by many different labels from around the world.

I will have to hunt down a video if I can but the 100 guitar thing is great. It is funny in a sad way that many people I talked with about this thought it sounded like a "useless idea" but, when they read that they would save $20 on the admission they got excited even though they would have never gone to this block party anyway even for free, especially if up to 100 people were going to "insult" music at once. The $20 savings meant to them that it was worth their time. What a neat trick. Still, closed minds did not show a breakthrough, possibly a seed was planted.

Thanks again all yooz

hey steltch, i hope the guitarkestra was great! to you and all those
'dis'organizing sound gatherings in public spaces, if you have any record( video & or audio) of these non-events, save them and we'll
make a gallery so people can hear/see this shit. obviously, the
important thing is simply to do the damn thing. to 'record' 'free music' would only be for the purpose of demonstrating that it can be and is already happening and to prove it's historical 'existence',
since any different ideas face ridicule, derision, and misconception as well as plain ignorance in their early stages..

hey timezone,
thanks for the nice note! hope your visit to the city is great. if you're
up in portland look us up. it's very important to me that you are
'always making music and giving it away and it's totally fulfilling' and
that you're posting that on this site. this is the confirmation that other people who are playing outside the industry are not crazy. we are beginning to reject 'the rules' and 'the system'. we are begining to
'free music'. this also relates directly to stopping america.
if anybody else is getting into this type of shit, post what you're doing and inspire us to do it ourselves. not just music but anything
you're doing that crushes the system at the same time as it makes you human and happy,(alternative transport-bikes,etc.,organic food
production, social living,etc.,etc.)
rock on people! we are the end of america, we are the end of bands, we are the beginning of a different future!

oye Adam, I am passing through San Francisco and was thinking about how your artwork has influenced me. A lot of people talk about how bands "changed their life" but usually in not-so-tangible ways. But I have been a vegetarian for about 15 years now and feel really grateful to be in excellent health! Also I think my life has been enriched by having some kind of guidance to critically analyze sexism and homophobia and make better choices for myself, choices to expand my community and find ways to support others who haven't had access to the privileges I've inherited. This was when I was a teenager, and it was perfect timing for me to have those kinds of messages wrapped up in some bad-ass music, which was perhaps the only place I would have listened at that time. Now that I'm a bit older I can also respect your progression as an artist and not wanting to repeat yourself stylistically or remain developmentally stuck. Lastly, thanks for encouraging me to look elsewhere for a career other than in the music industry! I am always making music and giving it away and it's totally fulfilling without staking my livelihood on it. I think the internet has been somewhat helpful in this although as always the most important connections are made in one's immediate community and family. Anyhow, cheers, man, ya done good. I hope you keep recording and putting music out there in addition to playing live.

GRAB A GUITAR AND GO TO THE HIDEOUT BLOCK PARTY FOR FREE!
A MESSAGE FROM CHIC-A-GO-GO DANCER STEVE KRAKOW: On saturday sept. 8, at high noon at the Hideout block party, 1354 w.wabansia we will have a Guitarkestra at the Hideout Block Party. to steltch and ldopas,
thanks for the awesome recent comments. your two last big entries put together read like a perfect definition of the crisis of the artist-musician-person.
ldopas, i totally hear your point about me encouraging everyone to play music as though that means something by itself. what i mean, is, in the future i and everybody else will have to become engineers, we'll have to learn how to build shit. and your creativity will be as important as your other skills. that future is happening now. also, let me assure you, i work at cdbaby so i made sure nobody makes profits off this shit. i'm sure if we were in the same room with instruments we'd be making music and it would fucking rock. i'm sure steltch would agree with me.
steltch, your observations of the musicians' experience should be read by all musicians and all people. i work with 75 musicians. young, old, culturally and creatively diverse, sold 0 records, sold 5 million records, every kind of music possible, all have to eventually admit that the industry is a joke, the sandbox is for everybody. obviously, one person's 'talents and achievements' are no more valid than another's because they have the priviledge-curse to be ground up and shat out of the culture industry and their 'name is known'. fuck that shit. we and everything else will become sand. if we don't play in the sandbox... i would love to jam with you and anybody you play with! your street or ours?

One more thing,
Ldopas,
If you design things you are most definitely an artist already.
If you are involved in engineering refineries, you know things about energy and the environment. You are in a seat of power to effect the world more than any pop star. This is your era to put out the best, most groundbreaking piece of gear ever. I know you are not in charge of policy but instead of writing a song you may be able to, someday help power our vans and amps with hemp or garbage or something.

Steltch

August 28, 2007

Hey Ldopas,
I geuss I relate to what Adam is doing with this site and releasing music that may or may not exist because I myself have a long history of being inspired by anti populist art and philosophy. Higher level statements in art stimulate me more that a really rockin tune or even a stimulating social commentary. I also find these things available in abundance. There are so many great blogs, I dont even bother adding my ideas to the mix so that I can avoid preaching to the converted. Although I did not experience the fame of consolidated, I started releasing records and CDs at about the same time as Consolidated. My project, "Steltch" came clos to a contract with Wax Trax at one point but because of the great Meat Beat and Consolidated stuff coming out and the resemblance of my stuff to it, they took a pass. I had never heard consolidated or meat beat when I started and I myself thought upon hearing it, wow this is similar but much better than Steltch. I became a fervent longtime fan of both. My art self education continues to this date. The fact that Ive never made money or experienced having a fan hurts a bit but I never tried to write a hit or cop a rock star attitude so what do I expect. I have had personal peak experiences and met some very impressive people through doing music. I also dont know how to hake music, I just do it and I will jam with anyone for the fun and also it is like a ritual sometimes. Getting into a groove. When I started it was guitar, I would listen to the others jam and quietly search the strings for a note that sounds good, then I would turn up and play a minimal rhythm just to add a bit of pepper to the mix. Other jammers liked that I did not take over the song or spazz out with a bunch of noise. Soon I discovered little box patters of other notes that always worked with the main note and suddenly I was a lead guitarist. Many but not all people can do this. Some really cant or dont have the opportunity but anyone can get a guitat and experiment at home. I friend can help show you how simple most songs are. If you like rock music you can noodle along with most of it and after getting your hands to do what your brain is telling them,
plug into a loud amp with some jammers and let er fly. I think music is magical but that doesnt it cant be made by anyone. When you were a child and someone plopped you into the sandbox, there was no pressure to create a masterpiece. I still live like a child in a sandbox, I want to have fun, make a mess, make friends and then walk away from the box, I dont want to sell it or copy write it. I just want to come back tomorrow and play some more.
I do understand what your saying on a personal level because Im 44 now, I fear most of the good times are in the past. Ive had some personal tragedys that have left me, shall we say, "less than extremely happy" I am wrapped up in survival as a poor person in a mean city in an even meaner world. No great whimsy left for me these days. The sandbox often sits untouched but not always, and it is still there that I love the most.

contact me at steltch@gmail.com and we can get some trading going on.

August 28, 2007

Wow, a few comments here since I last posted.

Adam, thanks for stopping by man...on your own website! Lordy.

Look I hear what you are saying. But here's the thing. You urge me to "go play some fucking music!", but seeing as I cannot play a note on any instrument or indeed have any musical talent whatsoever, how in your idealism would you have me make music?

See Im a big admirer of your talent. You can play and sing and say important things. But I fear you have got lost in the detritis of your beliefs.

It hasnt freed you, in fact its imprisoned you.

The world works on a horses for courses. Im good at things, but not playing music, I do those things Im good at and hope to make a difference. Engineering and building shit is one. I dont shout at you and others to start building refineries for free do I. Because I suspect you would tell me you have no Engineering background. Right? Exactly.

I think you are supremely talented at what you do, ie the music. By not doing it anymore, we've a right to be disappointed, as people like me who feel your ability to put important message to quality music inspires people like me.

To think that this stance is altering anything, or girding up some sort of movement here or in the World I think is flawed at best.

Anyway, I will "buy" the DVD.

You talk labels. Yeah no one wants labels. But guess what, unless we all do the same thing, think the same, wear the same, create the same.....we will be labelled. Black, white, male, female, American, English, Left Handed, Right Handed, intelligent, not intelligent etc etc. Its no problem, you just work with it.

Interesting you talk system, specifically the music industry. This diminushion of lines and needs to "artist", "label" etc is happening anyway and its nothing to do with your strategy you outline.

Its to do with the fact that channels such as the internet allow bands to get their music out there easily to the public without the overhead of corporates and management. Good, yepp its a good thing.

However these bands need to eat. If we are pushing the free music agenda, how are these bands meant to eat? Unless you are advocating creating music as a side issue to making a living for these bands. But isnt this a betrayal of their creative passios and drives?

Anyway Adam, I think you are a really musically talented guy with important things to say. Its a shame that for whatever reason your deep set beliefs dont allow you to see any other views.

I dont, for example, see why you dont create new music and hang it off this, your, website for free download. Its a win win, you get the messages our, and its free. Heck its your site, apart from a small amount to an ISP there are no other overheads. Dont forget CD Baby makes profit, a word you clearly despise.

To the regulars here, hello again! ;-) Apologies for the rant. Steltch how you doing man, we never did conclude the music swap did we, PM me! ;-)

hi guys! i'm vegeprincess and i've been listening to consolidated for a few years now! i can appreciate very much the message that consolidated try to convey in their music. i find that oppression of minorities is possibly the largest social problem that we face in modern society. however, i do take issue with a point concerning consolidated's ideology. why all the animosity against fascists? don't they realize that fascists are a group that have been opressed politically since world war 2? why not speak out and defend them too? it seems to me that consolidated harbor more than a few prejudices themselves, thus making themselves appear to be more than just a little hypocritical. if someone could perhaps enlighten me as to why this is the case, i would very much appreciate it cuz it's been bugging the hell out of me.

thanks ;D

Hi Adam (and fellow Consolidated listening brethren)!

I love you guys' music so freaking much, it really helps add a spark to my daily life. I think the issues you speak out on are extremely important and I appreciate the effort you make to get them heard by a wider audience.

Consolidated are my favorite band, tied for first place with N.W.A. Both speak out on similar issues, albeit from very different (yet equally valid) perspectives. For instance, when Consolidated speak out and denounce violence against women and homosexuals, I compare their point of view to that of Eazy-E when he describes beating a hooker in one of his songs. Consolidated also preach blind subordination to the greater collective good, whereas N.W.A. advocate throwing social responsibility to the wind and doing whatever you please. I think both equally extreme points of view sow the seeds of a very interesting Heglian dialectic that can help resolve modern cultural tension and point the way to a brighter future.

Anyway, I hope you find my point of view interesting. Keep up the good work, fellas. Free music! Stop America! Eat fresh, tasty vegeburgers!

July 1, 2007

I think we ALL thank you for this post Adam. I also thank you for your generous contibutions. Where I live I unfortunately feel little impact from Free Music, although if I could download something new that I liked for free, I certainly would. These would probably have to come from someone new, because I can't see anybody who is established suddenly performing and/or passing out recordings for free, as much as I would like it to be so. ( I also don't think I'd want anything free from anybody current.) I myself am not musical, but I do write, so any endowments on my part would have to be along those lines. If I were more inclined, it might be interesting to see what experimental music I created. (It would be a failed experiment no doubt!-lol). As for the free market system, I can't readily dismiss capitalism without more argument, but I do appreciate your desire to see people experiment with alternatives. It's as simple as not living beyond your means. People don't reject capitalism so much as they are unable to practice it, I think. My rejection comes in the form of always trying to save energy (my electric bill is outrageous). Maybe someone should start a Free Energy movement as well! Thanks again Adam! :) P.S.- Great posts Spadger and Malenthious! Very funny! I think I'm starting to feel the way both of you do.

we made a movie to document how people are helping to crush the
music industry( by playing free music in public, rather than as 'bands'
in 'clubs' with 'labels'etc. why the fuck would you want to be labeled and join clubs anyway?) and reject capitalism( by riding bikes, growing your own food and weed, creating your own culture, etc.)
the era of the 'artist' and the 'fan', the 'producer' and the 'consumer', the 'candidate' and the 'voter' is fucking done. that exhausted shit is played. we are all artists and political participants
if we are human. if. i agree with the guestbook comments from

To Ldopas, yeah, but hasnt Consolidated been saying that under current trends that music in fact does have no meaning. So why would it not be natural for them, (he) to follow his heart by wearing oa silly hat and jammin. It looks to me from the video that he is having fun. So to me there is no contradiction between early consolidated, who took a big jump into the biz at a time when things were much better than they are now in corporate music and radio and all that. It is consistent with Consolidateds' message to behave less commercially friendly now because things have gotten worse. Worse all over. I know it, you know it, CNN makes a living documenting it (not that that they have any options). So, hey it looks like Consolidated have invited us along for a smorgasboard of the DIY mentality. This time its outlandishly abstract, still confrontational, lightheartedly spiritual, still cutting edge. And I like how this site is so clean and without distraction that its different. zero hype is a relief in a hype world. Thats how I see it.

I suppose some people will always be on the consumer end of culture. If all you want is to buy something, shut up and go to the mall. If you want to create something, give it a try. Write a poem about how much you love to hate things. About how you feel a need to control other peoples lifes. about how much you dont understand about things you cant control. about misunderstanding peoples aesthetics.
you can call your art "dumb stuff by angry guy poetry"
there is probably a huge market for that especially if you put it to a beat other angry consumers can dance to.

Spadger the Badger

June 20, 2007

Of course Adam doesn't give a fuck about his band. He's no doubt huddled away in a little straw hut at the local hippie plantation, quaffing away on a tofu burger and wondering where in the hell his soul went. Ultra loony-lefty "liberalism" tends to have a certain kind of soul-rotting effect on one's core essence of self, and as such, he can't find it in himself to care about anything anymore.

(Either that, or he's too busy getting the shit whipped out of him by a leather-clad dominatrix at some San Francisco BDSM parlor like the little sub-male bitch that he is. Word 'em up, homes.)

Ldopas

June 20, 2007

God darn it. Are you lot on drugs? ;-)

Ok some of it was funny. But back to Consolidated, you know, the band whos website this is...hahaha. Ok couldnt keep back the laughter considering they, and especially Adam couldnt give a flying fuck about it!

NO other band I love who play great music and have important things to say treat their body of work like Adam. Protestations of Consolidated being "alive and thriving" is bullshit. I understand what they are trying to get at, but it means absolutely nothing.

If we take other bans like New Model Army or Killing Joke, they are still cranking out great music, with message and getting it out to people. Consolidated have surrendered, thrown in the towel. Say it with me people, because its true and very sad.

The video says it all. A weakish track rendered by people leaping about in silly hats. Gosh NATO must be shaking with fear, not! ;-)

Killing Joke are still out there, they will never give up like them or not. Visceral music and message.

Im not happy moaning (again), but a talented musician(s) and a band who dont really bother any more with message or indeed people who followed them loyally is a huge disappointment.

Apologies - Another rant by Ldopas! ;-)

After reading the posts by Powder I still feel skeptical that there will be a movement that will repair the worlds problems on a mass scale but I am hoping. Powder's words were liberating though. Yesterday I tried one of those energy drinks. About a half hour later something was rumbling in my digestive system. I ran to a public rest room and exploded. But, this was the first time I did not feel embarrassed that my jet propelled, air filled discharge was heard by the people quietly taking a leak.....yeah!

I shall attempt to embolden myself despite all the adversity I face. I will triumph even though I know had badly others want to repress me. The bubbles no longer scare me. They are just pockets of Ego to my Id. And I will burst them all! People are jealous of me, for I am innocent and sensitive; traits they cannot attain. We are all equal. When will those evil people who claim to be rock stars (i.e. cool) realize that their influence is dwindling? I will have a hearty laugh when the Walls of Hollywood Babylon come crumbing down. And I will not be a slave to Xanax. My power comes from within. Nobody can hurt me any more. My vision is crystal clear. Brainwashing is no longer effective on me. The love of my family is the most important thing in the world. Without them I'd die. Slowly, but surely, but I am so strong now that I no longer even need them. Very soon we will have a new base of government power. A new world order. I see myself as a respected leader of this movement. Eventually people will see what a talented writer I am and take heed. The meek will inherit the earth. My inmost being is compassionate, but my new assertive, brazen self is now in control. I am a rock; I am an island! I am so far removed from the stupid people that I am almost like a different being- an evolved being. Only others like me would understand. I have feelings too, and these matter. Nobody's feelings are more important then mine and you know who you are! The day will come when I can feel safe, happy, and relaxed without ridicule. If my parents only knew how badly they have wounded me, they would ask for forgiveness. As it is, I've none to give. Only a higher power can do that. I only wish others could appreciate my wisdom. Perhaps some day they shall. Until then I will ring the Bell of Truth, loudly and proudly! I wear my loneliness like a badge of honor. I shall overcome!

Im not sure why I have decided to spill my guts out here, now, and I hope its not a big bummer.
I feel like a weak skinned bubble. Way to sensitive and empathetic to a fault. Every other other bubble I have contact with seems to detect my frailty and stomp on me. I encounter groups of bubbles, united in whatever gets them off but Im spread out to thin, trying to please them all, and satisfy my own ego, by being appreciated and loved for my efforts and intentions. But there seems to be a sick energy that drives these things, greed, fame, etc. Its like I can feel their ego trips causing anxiety and defensiveness as they grip tightly, not so much to material things but to their hopes and plans. So tightly that they can be delusional and combative. Ive been playing this game a long time, but with my own growing disillusionment with myself, the game has become a giant drag. Yes I used to love music but now I cant access my pleasure places and relax with it. Even the peace fests and hempfest are crawling with egotistical rock stars(they wish) who just want to infight for power and unqualified respect. Then here I am, thinking its all about fun (what a fool). Also, even though I should be happy to be loved by my wife Sylvia and 3 year old Adrian, I still feel so alone. I have nightmares where I find myself endlessly trying to explain myself to deaf minds. I have horrible parents who pretty much trained me to have a low self esteem, I have distanced myself from them completely. Sometimes I tell myself that having no-one behind be, or saving me when I fall is good. I am the man and I dont need support. I brazenly make myself. But this is contrary to my nature. I hope I stumble on to some kind of key to increased contentment. when I hear the birds in the morning, chirping the sun up for another day, I wonder how they do it.

Exactly so Badger! If fact, I'm killing myself right now. I've just left all my meager savings and worldly possessions to all the oppressed islamo-fascists, all the poor, and everybody in the GLBT community who are still, even as we speak, being discriminated against SOLEY because of their sexual preference. Like, you, I'm overcome with guilt. I hate myself so much. I never realized what an awful person I am. I realize that I should probably go on living, and working just so that I can give every cent of my earnings to people I don't know, but are poor (and of course I believe them and accept their plight as my fault). But, I'm just such a bad person, that I can't bear to go on living. If my death can give others hope, then it's for the best.

You bad bad person! ;-)

First paragraph lured me in, till I realised it was a pisstake! Very very funny, thanks for making me laugh on a shitty morning at work!

Hey, I live in the UK (dont know whether you do), with 10 years of Blair and now the unelected Gordon (lets waste billions) Brown, more CCTV surveillance than anywhere else in Europe and an EU constitution being forced on us even though we voted no. We're well on the utopia you amusingly describe.

Frank Zappa once pointed out that one of the first concepts to reach any babies mind is that of "this is mine". Usually its a doll or a blanket of something nice to hold and squeeze. within a few years "mine" is also among the first words. Although this "mine" thing can grow into a monster in some, leading to problems among the haves and the have nots, it seems to be universal. I have an idea for dealing with this. It would be a mandated, two teer system.

All can live and be poor as a choice or out of necessity, but on a more socialist level. If one feels the passion to make a bunch of money or work passionately in a money making field then they rise to the top teer, always knowing they can drop down to the lower more casual and relaxed teer. This would be a social adjustment that would require a less materialistic environment where taking time for yourself would be a respected choice, one that most would make from time to time. Preserving old culture is a lost cause. Give Disney the job of taking over the world and transforming each town into a cultural display of what was once real. Buy everyone Cable TV, along with a nice house, clean water and schools and hospitals. A worldwide sellout, I think thats what all us me people want.

Greetings, fellow Consolidated fans!

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Adam and co. for all the great activism they've done over the years. Like him, I am utterly appalled by the current state of affairs in the world, and it is clear to me that we are steadily drifting towards a fascist dystopia. I think everyone should take the time out to examine Consolidated's message, as it is nothing but the gospel truth.

The human race is indeed far too corrupt by it's own nature to ever be able to live in a genuinely free society, thus I think that it is important that we impose a Marxist dictatorship upon the entire world population as soon as possible. Denying people the freedom to make their own decisions is the only way we can stop the oppression of blacks, Jews, gays, Muslims, women, lesbians, small furry animals etc. I, personally, am looking forward to the day when the heterosexual white man is nothing more than a painful memory. As a straight white male myself, I often find that the guilt that goes hand in hand with my privilege afforded to me by society is almost too much to bear. The sooner we set up death camps to systematically eliminate us all, the better I think.

In terms of government, I propose we follow the ideas of radical feminist author Mary Daly. An enlightened body of lesbians (capable, of course, of reproducing by parthogenesis so as too preserve their bloodline and prevent it from being contaminated by any evil male genes) should assume control of an all-powerful central government in order to further the creation of laws that will dictate how people live their lives to the smallest absolute detail. Closed-circuit TV cameras should be set up in everybody's home (à la 1984) in order to monitor everyone at all times. No one will be able to escape the scrutiny of Big Sister. No one will be able to engage in any sort of activity that could help promote the development of proto-fascist memes and ideas in people's minds.

In conclusion, I think that the means of social reform outlined above point to the only chance humanity has of ever being able to live in a peaceful, harmonious society. The soul-destroying fascism that permeates every nation on the planet right now must be forever destroyed. It just isn't totalitarian enough.

Timezone! How the heck are ya man! ;-)

Yes, very good work on Wikipedia!!!! Keep it up!

I hear what you say about Consolidated and there not being much about them and the powers that be ignoring them for a variety of reasons.

BUT my big issue is that with the advent of the internet and not needing a major label to get music out, Consolidated should also make an appearance surely? To ensure their legacy. Not leave it to a rag tag small (it seems sadly) army of fans like us to try and make what we can os a finite body of work. No?

Hi all! I just wanted to let you all know that I've been gradually expanding the Wikipedia entry on Consolidated. I've been trying to add some information on what I think are the important innovations in their shows, e.g., passing the mics around to audience members and sampling those interactions; video montage; and having activist groups table at their shows.

I've also been trying to complete the discography. I think I have everything that came out on CD, but I never collected their vinyl releases and I know that there are quite a few 12" records. The "Butyric Acid" 12" is the only one I know of for sure; I'm pretty sure most of their CD EPs had 12" equivalents but didn't want to add anything until I'm positive about it. Lastly, I've been adding links back to the Consolidated page on related pages -- e.g., Wendy O. Williams. And can you believe those cats at Nettwerk didn't have Consolidated listed until I added them?

I think because Consolidated was perceived as a threat to a lot of power structures (including the music industry) during the height of their notoriety, there has subsequently been little effort among music journalists to provide any information about them on the web. So I think it's important for people who care about what they've done to help fill that void of access.

This is not sentimental or nostalgic, this is about access to information that can inspire and empower the activist youth in the here and now.

At the same time, it's just a small part of my own activism and I'm not depending on Adam Sherburne to resume a role as a public figure... although I miss hearing his guitar and voice, and even though he has criticized his own rapping skills, I have to say that "I'm not Samuel Beckett but I'm still waiting for good-dough" has to be one of the tightest plays on words in the history of hip-hop.

peace,
TZLF

OMGOSH, Front 242! Now that takes me back! I'd almost forgotten about them! Good suggestion. Maybe it's time to rediscover the past a little. ....schitzel boy...when you speak of Colin Newman, do you mean the guy from Wire? That's another band I need to dig out of "the vault".

Yes, my comment was sarcastic and you are also right about the artist being human. I am a big fan though. Ive been buying Consolidated CDs since Friendly Fascism was released. I saw them live at Metro in Chicago (great show). I have just listened to "free music or stockpiled death" and I think it is not only sonically pleasing but conceptually solid as well. As far as Adam is concerned, he might have found a way to take it easy, to step back and watch, or he may be super busy with something, or both but its all ok with me. I want to hear and see more but Adam the person will do what he does with my best wishes. You know what bothers me along these lines, Colin Newman. I hope he keeps singing.

shnitzel boy...

Im assuming that was sarcastic, yes?

He has no obligation as an entertainer. And probably no obligation to us, save the fact that we believed, bought the records (which I assume he pocketed some of the money) and we followed him and watched him. I live in the UK, so let me tell you that costs in time and money. Would a little communication and maybe a song or two hurt, jeezuz I think he is a great songwriter and lyricist.

But no, you are right he has not "obligation".

But his career is one of messages. Not to mention fucking good music. And in that area he has disappeared.

And we have this place here. What is it for then? The videos posted are clearly to self publicize Adam and his "ventures".

As an artist I and others rate him highly, so why not tell us what he is currently doing, maybe even let us hear it?

You say sarcastically that he "is still not doing what I want and expect him to do". Tell me, what the fuck IS he doing, we've no clue. and that is the sad thing, he is off the radar whatever he is doing.

You post that I presume with some quasi referential aim in mind to remind us that Adam is a free thinker and doer. Great. But a communicator of ideas who doesnt communicate has lost the plot.

shnitzel boy

April 19, 2007

Adam is still not doing what I want and expect him to do. It makes me so mad, I wish I could scream onto one of his CDs. Why cant he realize that he has to fulfill his obligation as an entertainer and make things I want him to make!

To Forkboy and J,

Yeah I love Meat Beat Manifesto. So we all agree on that! ;-)

If the criteria we are comparing Consolidated to is lyrics that mean something and music with an edge then other bands I'd highyl recommend are:

New Model Army (check out particularly Thunder and Consolation a classic).
Killing Joke (check out Extremeties or Killing Joke)
Front 242
Cop Shoot Cop

Im sure I'll think of others, but its midday and my brain aimt working properly! ;-)

Hey if you love good rick music Id check out 27/7 Spyz - Face The Day released 6 months or so ago. I love it, but alas little known!

Anyway J, Forkboy and the other few who post meaningful things. Keep writing. You never know we may start a fire that get Consolidated of their asses and on this board! ;-)

Forkboy,

Thanks for the offer man! Hope you are keeping well!

I havent got Stockpiled, but Ive heard it and am not enamoured. Unless you have other opinions. I only heard it once and my review was based on that. Have I bee too harsh?

Anyway. If this music is meant to be out there for us, why dont they allow us to download it from this or any other site? Ludicrous isnt it.

Consolidated say its for everyone, but you cant get it, buy it or download it. So not for everyone after all then.

Im very dissappointed in them and especially Adam. He has the perfect mechanism, ie the net, to put up new music and allow us to download it. So getting his message and music to the world. And he chooses not to. Go figure?

Instead, while preaching that music is for all, he actually rations us and makes it hard to get Consolidated or his music. What is that about?

Its a sad state of affairs.
